Powerful Secret to Health Discovered
Could End Top Killer Diseases & Global Health Care Crisis
Many Positive Energy and Environmental Implications
Imagine that the New York Times tomorrow released some amazing news with the above headline. A health treatment has been discovered that literally cures most forms of heart disease. But not just that--this treatment has a dramatic impact on most of the diseases Westerners face, including cancer, obesity, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, osteoporosis, Alzheimer's, and many others. And this treatment is so inexpensive to administer that two-thirds of the medical establishment can be shut down as no longer serving any useful function.
It's really too much to believe, isn't it? But there's more.
This treatment has miraculous implications for the environment. By applying this treatment, we can eliminate the largest source of global warming, lower the global use of fossil fuels by up to 30%, and substantially reduce the waste that is polluting our water supply. We'll also dramatically improve the health and biodiversity of our oceans and forests.
And there's more. By applying this treatment, we'll greatly increase the supply of arable land, lowering the cost food and allowing us to feed everyone on this planet. Starvation can become a thing of the past. And one last thing. This treatment also has enormous moral implications, allowing us to eliminate almost all of the pain and suffering we are inflicting on the billions of animals in factory farms, most of which is hidden away from view, but is morally repulsive to anyone exposed to this suffering.
Now what if I told you that we don't have to wait for tomorrow's New York Times, that this treatment has been found, and that the amount of scientific data supporting the claims I just made is substantial. The "miracle" treatment is simple. It's simply eating a whole foods, plant-based diet.
Skeptical? I'm not surprised. But by the end of this book, you'll be exposed to the overwhelming amount of evidence that supports every claim made above. You'll also get to hear the counter-arguments made by skeptics and you'll get to decide for yourself whether these claims are true. It's my hope that by the end of this book you'll be convinced and will join our movement. You may just save your life and the planet in the bargain.
“It turns out that if we eat the way that promotes the best health for ourselves,
we also promote the best health for the planet.”
T. Colin Campbell, PhD
Much has been written about the health benefits of eating a whole foods, plant-based diet. Some writers have also touched on other powerful benefits like the environment, world hunger and the treatment of animals. But this is the first book that examines the overall "big picture" of what is possible with a return to the natural diet for our species.
Very few people understand the enormity of what is at stake; but that is beginning to change, thanks to the work of a few brave professionals like my friend & colleague Dr. T. Colin Campbell of Cornell University. In his world-changing and best-selling book, The China Study, he did more than any single person before him to bring all of these inter-connected global problems to our attention. Dr. Campbell and many of his colleagues are featured prominently in this book and bring irrefutable credibility to the overwhelming power of a whole foods, plant-based diet to correct so many crucial issues that our world is facing.
As we outline the enormous benefits and the preponderance of evidence supporting such a diet in the following chapters, it is our hope that the reader will experience a blinding flash of the obvious and will feel compelled to think about making some serious changes in the way they eat; some serious changes that will enable them to take charge of their own health…and so much more.
This book is all about the single most powerful move that we humans can make to promote health, reduce obesity, lower the cost of health care, nurture our fragile environment, conserve our energy resources, feed the world's steadily growing population and greatly reduce the suffering of animals in our factory farms all over the world. It’s all about moving aggressively in the direction of a whole foods, plant-based diet—not necessarily becoming a vegetarian or a vegan.
Those “v” words only convey some information about what a person doesn’t eat but does little to convey what they actually “DO” eat, and that is what is most important. A great many vegetarians eat a very unhealthy diet and, as a result, fail to enjoy the host of benefits that result from eating a truly health-promoting diet. After all, one could consume nothing but Diet Coke and potato chips and call themselves a vegan…and they certainly wouldn’t be very healthy.
What about weight-loss? While this is not specifically a weight-loss book, the adoption of a near optimal diet of whole plant foods will enable your body to seek its ideal weight—effortlessly and permanently. Diets to lose weight fail 97% of the time. Compare that to a near 100% success rate for those who make a commitment to a “health-promoting” diet for the right reasons. You will learn all about that very important topic in this book.
My purpose in writing this book was to outline in simple, everyday terms, the extent of the problems we face along with an explanation of how and why this all happened -- and what we can do to make things better. Fortunately, despite the incredible complexity of our current dilemma, the solution is refreshingly simple. All we have to do is educate ourselves, start making better choices in what we eat, and then share all that we have learned with everyone that we care about. I am convinced that there has never been anything more important in the history of the world.
